Visit the Tauranga Underwater Centre (on 50 Cross Rd), those guys operate a number of diving courses, including open-water courses (they cost NZ$450) and speciality courses (for NZ$130). If you visit www.diveunderwater.com, you'll see they also have snorkelling and scuba diving courses. are you interested in such activities? I always thought it's kind of dangerous to practice these water sports. until my first diving... since then, I became an addicted!
