You could go white water rafting. It's a great experience. Most companies in Rotorua will take you to Kaituna River, where you'll be around 45 minutes on the river and the prices are around 80 NZ$. Here are some operators: Raftabout (www.raftabout.co.nz), River Rats (www.riverrats.co.nz), Whitewater Excitement Co (www.raftnz.co.nz), which also go to Rangitaiki River and Wairoa River.
