I've been meaning to try kayaking for some time now and I was thinking of doing it in Rotorua. Any info?(give a different answer) .
Try going with Adventure Kayaking (www.adventurekayaking.co.nz). They have half day kayaking trips on Lake Rotorua and on Rotoiti, that cost 55 NZ$. Also available full day trips to Lake Tarawera and Rotoiti (75 and 80 NZ$). I particularly enjoyed the twilight paddle on the lake followed by a dip in the hot pool (just 65 NZ$).
