The Whakarewarewa State Forest Park is said to have some of the best mountain bike trails in the country, so it's a good place to come. You can rent bikes and gear from Planet Bike, on Hinemoa St for 15 NZ$ per hour or 50 NZ$ per day. They also organize guided rides for 60 to 100 NZ$.
