actually there is this Routeburn Farm Cottage, on Routeburn Rd, where you can find a comfortable, three-bedroom, self-contained cottage surrounded by walking opportunities. the good part is that the owner also conduct one-on-one horse rides (for NZ$90). the bad one is that I've never been there, so I can't tell you if it has that nice,cosy, rural style that you're searching for. perhaps this number would be more helpful, so you can check out by yourself: 442 9901. good luck and... have a nice trip!
