Certainly you must visit the Waitangy National Reserve (the admission fee for an adult is NZ$10). The main attractions here include a half-hour He Toho cultural performance with the war dance (called "thaka"), songs and other dances, then a Maori guided tour, a 20-minute garden tour and a hour and a half sound and light show. At least that's the first step to take in order to get in contact with the Maori culture.
