I've heard there's a huge collection divided into pre-20th century, 20th century and contemporary galleries at the Christchurch Art Gallery (on Worcester and Montreal Sts). You may also find there temporary exhibitions featuring modern NZ artists (such as Margaret Hudson-Ware or Margaret Elliot) and a spacious cafe-wine bar. if you're interested in visiting the place, here's the site, where you can find the entire program and other useful information: www.christchurchgallery.org.nz. by the way, what are your favorites modern artists?
